The Muddy River Art Association's Annual Juried Art Competition opened Saturday, October 8 2011, with a reception for the public. Eighty-four Works by forty-six artists are on display. Everyone is invited to drop by to see the show at the Library Auditorium. Juror Richard Hedgecock is an artist, framer and animal lover. His studio in Kernersville, NC has been a source of his original works and limited edition giclees and prints. During the judging process, he remarked on the quality of the art and the difficulty of selecting works to be recognized. Richard donated his honorarium, plus $100, to fund several extra awards - a pair of Peoples' Choices at $50 and $25 each, to be voted on by the attendees, plus five Special Recognition Awards at $20 each.
The Awards Presented are as follows:
First Place - "Culinary Rapture" by Dick Kuch. Prize: $250.
Second Place – "Skip" by John Reidy. Prize: $175.
Third Place - (tie) "Maxwell the Cheetah" and "The Teacup of London" both by Susan Howard (one prize of $ 125).
Honorable Mention No. 1 - "Trapped" by Tiffany Barron. Prize: $25 Gift Certificate to Dick Blick Art Supplies.
Honorable Mention No. 2 - "Country Dance" by John Reynolds. Prize: $25 Gift Certificate to Dick Blick Art Supplies.
Honorable Mention No. 3 - "Color Me Happy" by Carolyn Dunnagan. Prize: $25 Gift Certificate to Dick Blick Art Supplies.
People's Choice No. 1 - "The Lace Maker" by John Reynolds Prize: $50.
People's Choice No. 2 - "Mirage" by Marlene Urton. Prize: $25.
Special Recognition Awards - Koreen Damelio (2 awards), J. W. Edwards, Helen Etters and Mack Wilder.
